ABOUT

Mike Kane is a documentary/assignment photographer based in Seattle, the land of endless water and people who know how to stay dry. His path to photography began with that small-town midwest restlessness that takes hold at some point during high school and never really lets go. By the age of 19 he'd gotten himself 3K miles from home, teaching English in northern Nicaragua. A gift from his mom, her old Nikon FG, allowed him to see and process a world he could scarcely believe, and ultimately share it in ways far beyond the capabilties of words he could ever come up with. From that point forward the camera has pretty much led the way.
After a good run as a newspaper staffer (SF Chronicle, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, San Antonio Express-News) Mike became a freelancer in 2009 and has since been honored to work with socially conscious foundations and corporate clients, investigative journalism nonprofits, and award-winning publications. His pictures have been recognized by various national photo competitions, the Nieman Foundation at Harvard, the Duke Center for Documentary Studies, and nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
